Who is this course for?
This course is for students preparing either for the C2 Proficiency exam (also applied to C1 Advanced) as well as English teachers who prepare students to pass the C2 Proficiency exam (or C1 Advanced).

The rationale behind this course
Even though Reading and Use of English is one single paper, according to the Cambridge assessment scale, Reading and Use of English are assessed separately, which you can confirm here (go to page 8 for C1 Advanced and page 9 for C2 Proficiency). The gapped text exercise (part 6 in the C2 Proficiency exam and Part 7 in the C1 Advanced exam) is part of the  reading  section, which does not include Use of English. To pass the C2 Proficiency exam, candidates need a minimum of 28 points in the Reading paper, as you can see below. 

 
Part 7 of the C2 Proficiency exam contains 7 exercises, which are worth 2 points each. In other words, if you get 7 correct answers, you will get 14 points, which is 50% of your reading score. The gapped text exercise can guarantee 50% of your score. Yes, read that again.

In the C1 exam, the gapped text exercise accounts for 37% of the reading score. However, this workshop is still relevant to C1 candidates and tutors who teach C1 Advanced because the strategy applied is the same. 

How will this session be?
1 week before the session, you will receive a task to work on. On the day of the session, you will have the opportunity to discuss your answers with other participants  and, then, we'll work on the exercise together. After finishing the exercise, I'll teach you how to explore the language in it with a view to improving performance in other parts of the Reading and Use of English Paper as well as the Writing Paper. Following that, there will be a 90-minute break, during which participants will receive a task to work on. We will then reconnect, to discuss their performance together. There will be a 15-min Q&A in the end.
